EMERGENT Project developed a new class of RFID: the chipless one. Watch our video on the new RFID technology results!
ChiplEss MultisEnsor Rfid for GrEen NeTworks (EMERGENT) is an EU project funded by the European Commission for a total of 913.500€ under the Horizon 2020 - Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions - Research and Innovation Staff Exchange programme. The Project moves towards strengthening of existing inter-sectoral networks between the three EU re-search institutes and the three EU SMEs involved. The Project will run from January 2015 to December 2017. More than 200 knowledge transfer secondments will be implemented in order to facilitate the joint research and innovation work which aims to realize a new class of chipless RFID tags and sensors moving from conventional sensors towards next generation pervasive interconnected systems by employing environmental-friendly substrates such as paper and low-cost printing process. EMERGENT will deliver wireless passive chipless smart tags and sensors able to sense the changing environment by collecting information about quantities of interest, which may include temperature, humidity, stress, gases. EMERGENT will enhance the performance and robustness of chipless RFID systems and will bring RFID sensing outside research laboratories towards self-consistent products.
EMERGENT activities focus on the inter-sectoral mobility dimension, based on the exchange of staff between academia and SMEs. The Project brings together three academic and three industrial partners from three EU countries:
  1. University of Pisa – Department of Information Engineering (Pisa, Italy) – Project Coordinator
  2. Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain)
  3. Grenoble Institute of Technology – LCIS Lab (Valence Cedex, France)
  4. Consortium Ubiquitous Technologies – CUBIT Scarl (Cascina, Italy)
  5. Generation RFID SL (Reus, Spain)
  6. ARDEJE Sarl (Valence, France)
